All Girl Schools, Gross!
Oh no, a school with no male companions. How is a girl to develop any social skills when she's stuck in a single sex school? her parents probably think she will be able to concentrate on her studies better without male distractions. Of course there are the la-di-da finishing schools, where a young lady can learn the social graces necessary to take her proper place in society. How outdated is that?
Modern girls only schools are light years from the single sex schools of the past. They provide a quality education and opportunities to socialize. No more sneaking off to the boy's school across the way. To be honest, there is nothing like a good girlfriend. While men may be fickle, a girlfriend understands you and will be a part of your life forever. I have a friend like that and she is a treasure. She's seen me at my best and my worst and her friendship has never wavered.
What will a young woman gain from attending a girl's school? Aside from a good education, girls have a safe place to explore new interests and activities. Girls in co-ed schools are less likely to speak up and be competitive for fear of being labeled and made fun of. In an all girl setting, they can pursue their athletic interests without being labeled a jock or worse. They can develop a healthy competitive spirit and be part of a team. Strong female role models are more likely to be found in a girl's school. This helps girls to thrive and become healthy, well rounded adults.
Women are by nature, people pleasers and an environment free from male influence helps a young woman learn that her opinions have value and she can speak up for herself. Overall, it leads to a more successful and confident adult. Women today can be anything they choose and a single sex environment supports a woman's independence. Women can bond with each other and learn to survive in a male dominated world without becoming that awful word that many successful women are called.
There is a common misconception that all girl schools are for "bad girls". There are schools that deal solely with girls who have mental issues and behavior problems. A structured lifestyle is often beneficial to remedy this situation, but most girl's schools are there to provide a quality education, confidence and a greater sense of self, so if you're considering it, check one out. They encourage visits to see if it's the right fit.
