Summer School

Summer school is not something most kids would aspire to. To the average kid, attending summer school means you failed some subject and sacrificed you summer of fun. Not so for the students going to summer boarding school.

Attending summer boarding school has nothing to do with failure. Parents thinking about sending their child to boarding school full time have found this an excellent way to check out the prospective school. More importantly it can help them gauge whether their child is ready to move away from home.

Think of it as summer camp with academics. Before spending a large amount of money for full tuition, check out the summer programs offered. Your child may find that they are not ready to leave for an extended period of time. You may not be ready to let them go either, but it's only for a few short months. The time will fly.

The summer programs may just get your child excited about attending full time and you will be able to see for yourself that they are safe. The academic standards are high as with most boarding schools, but extracurricular activities abound. Does your child enjoy music. art, or sports? These are just a few of available activities. Many even have horseback riding and camping. There will be plenty of time for summer fun.

Living with other students, studying, and playing on a team gives the child an opportunity to mature and become more confident. Being in a summer program also allows them to meet the faculty and get an idea of what school there will be like in the fall. Don't worry, they can contact you as often as they need to. With internet access, you will be able to track their progress and provide comfort as needed.

Most students will enjoy it and attend in the fall. If that's not your child's cup of tea, you won't have wasted a year's tuition.
